# Arming

Arming the drone tells the flight controller that it is allowed to spin the motors.

This is necessary before the drone can accept flight commands.

Arming the drone in the SDK is a single line of code:

```python
from __future__ import annotations
import sys
from nimbusos_sdk import NimbusClient
def main() -> None:
    with NimbusClient() as client:
        print("Publishing arm", flush=True)
        client.publish_arm_state(True)  # This is the arm command.
if __name__ == "__main__":
    try:
        main()
    except KeyboardInterrupt:
        print("\nStopped by Ctrl+C", flush=True)
        sys.exit(130)
```

The command-line equivalent is:

```bash
nimbusos-arm
```

To disarm instead, publish `False` or use the CLI flag:

```python
client.publish_arm_state(False)
```

```bash
nimbusos-arm --disarm
```

Once the drone is armed, you can request takeoff with `client.publish_autonomy_request("takeoff")`.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://droneforge.gitbook.io/droneforge-docs/nimbusos-sdk/python-api/examples/arming.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
